Osteria Francescana is the 3rd best restaurant in the world according to the St Pellegrino top 100 restaurant in the world awards and has 3 Michelin stars. As I had already been to number 1 restaurant in the world (Noma) and number 2 (El Cellar de Can Roca), it was time to get my friends together to fly to Modena, Italy and go to Osteria Francescana.

It was surprisingly easy to book Osteria Francescana. I still remember the tricks I had to use to get into Noma and the 6 months wait for El Cellar de Can Roca, so I was pleasantly surprised I could book a table at Osteria Francescana 3 months before our meal. We could not get a table for Saturday night though, but managed to get a table for Friday night for the 7 of us.

Polpetto

The first Polpetto opened in 2010 in Soho and then closed in 2012 as the venue was too small (seated 24), even though people loved the food. After spending some time looking for a new place, Polpetto has finally opened on another street, also in Soho, and now seats 60 people and also has an aperativo bar. Polpetto as the name suggests is the sister restaurant to Polpo (Venetian tapas restaurant with many branches in London) and Russell Norman is behind all these venues.

I did not go to the previous Polpetto, even though I did want to, but the new one is quite dark in the inside (which means photos taken with my iphone were super dark and not great at all), creating that romantic feeling, similar to what Ducksoup (another restaurant in Soho) is like. The main chef is Florence Knight and the dishes on the menu were quite unusual, using popular ingredients but combining them in interesting ways that worked very well.

This is now one of my favourite places in London. I read an article about Kurobuta that said it was a sort of Japanese izkaya (a typical drinking place with food in Japan –and Kurobuta is a modern take on it) and booked a table. There are two Kurobuta restaurants now in London, one in Chelsea and one in Marble Arch and I went to the Marble Arch one as it was closer to me (and one of my friends was saying this one is nicer anyways).

I was invited to a blogger event at Ergon, to go there taste their food and learn a bit more about the restaurant. I usually never go to these type of events, as I don’t want to go across London on a weekday for some event that starts at 8pm and also because I would just rather have a meal with my friends, and this was the first one that I attended as I was curious about this restaurant and also because it was so close to where I live. But I enjoyed this evening so much and had such a great modern Greek meal and met so many interesting people that I am so glad I came here.

This is now one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in London. I absolutely love it. My friend Paul, who beats me in knowing where the new trendy and good restaurants are in London, took me out for dinner here. A Wong is located in Victoria and owned by Andrew Wong (hence the name) who works in the kitchen and runs the place with his wife who seats and takes care of guests. Andrew’s wife had just given birth so I did not see her during my last visit. I saw Andrew though, working hard in the open plan kitchen (so rare for Chinese restaurants to have a trendy modern open plan kitchen) and he was lovely and had a conversation with us in the middle of his cooking. Andrew at first studied chemistry at Oxford before becoming a Chef and he has travelled and worked in China.

RyuGin is the world’s 22nd best restaurant according to the St Pellegrino awards and according to the latest best in Asia list also the 5th best restaurant in Asia. Besides these awards it also has 3 Michelin stars. It was one of the restaurants that I was very keen to go to when I was in Tokyo.

When I was choosing which restaurants to visit in Tokuo, Narisawa was top of my list. Narisawa is the 20th best restaurant in the world according to the St Pellegrino awards and number 1 in Asia (2 days after we visited it the new rankings came out and it slipped to number 2 in Asia). It has 2 Michelin stars and is run by Yoshihiro Narisawa who has inspired chefs all over the world. The restaurant opened in 2003 under the name of Les Creations de Narisawa in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, and in 2011 it became known as just Narisawa. Narisawa serves Japanese food with influence from France where Yoshihiro Narisawa has worked for many years.

My boyfriend and I love Vietnamese food and are always hunting for new Vietnamese restaurants in London. A few weeks ago when we were walking in Soho my boyfriend noticed the restaurant “House of Ho” and instantly thought it was Vietnamese (I was not so sure and had to google to confirm it was a Vietnamese restaurant). On the next available Saturday evening we made our way to House of Ho for dinner.

This year Noma was knocked off the top spot as the world’s best restaurant in the St Pellegrino restaurant awards by a restaurant in Girona owned by three brothers – El Celler de Can Roca.  According to themselves: “El Celler is a free-style restaurant, committed to the avant-garde, but still faithful to the memory of different generations of the family's ancestors dedicated to feeding people”. Naturally, as I have been to Noma and had a great meal there, I was very keen to visit El Celler de Can Roca. I booked the table in June a month after it was announced El Celler was the new world’s best restaurant and then could only get a table on a weekday lunch (Friday) 6 months from then, in January. Having said that, it is still easier than getting a table at Noma, where they just never have any free spaces as you can only book up to three months in advance.

Bodega 1900 is one of the best Spanish tapas restaurant that I have ever been to. But then again I sort of semi expected it, as it is owned by Ferran and Albert Adria, two very  influential chefs of this generation, who ran El Bulli, the worlds best restaurant at the time, for many years.
