Restaurant Story has become very popular in the last few months, I have had many people asking me in the last 2 months if I have been there, and getting a reservation these days is not that easy. Story is located just south of Tower Bridge, in a funny place in between roads where public toilets used to be situated just a few months ago. The owners of Story have got rid of the toilets and instead built a light wooden building that has around 15 tables inside. There is no big sign saying Story outside and I almost walked past this place when I was looking for it, and the only reason why I found it is because I had my google maps with the exact location of the restaurant. I had booked a table for 4 people for a Thursday dinner for my boyfriend, myself and my friend Bernie and his wife, and Bernie’s wife is a fellow food blogger and she had chosen this venue, so I had high expectations.

This week I have visited some of the best restaurants in London and in general had 3 unforgettable meals in Hedone, Corner Room and The Clove Club, and I found the food extremely good in all of these places, but out of all the restaurants The Clove Club scores a tiny bit below the other places because I found the portions quite small which left me hungry at the end of the meal and also because out of all the places it seemed like the most expensive for the meal we had, plus the service was not great, but still nevertheless very very good.

I think this is one of the best if not the best value for money meals you can have in London. The Corner Room is a sister restaurant of Viajante, which has just been named the 59th best restaurant in the world, and both are run by the very cool Portuguese born chef Nuno Mendes. Both restaurants are located in Bethanal Green in Town Hall boutique hotel, and the Corner Room is a more affordable restaurant, a sort of neighborhood restaurant where you can have Nuno Mendes unique, magical cuisine for an affordable price, and in line with this “easy accessible” principle no reservations are taken for dinner, so anyone can walk in at any time and try to have a taste of Nuno’s food (you can book a table for lunch, and 2 courses at lunch cost £19, 3 courses for £23).

Olivocarne is the 4th and most recent restaurant opened by the Olivio group, that serves Italian (with a special focus on Sicily) food in all their restaurants (Olivomare (seafood), Oliveto (pizza), Olivo (traditional)). All the Olivio group’s restaurants are located within walking distance of each other on or next to Ebury street in Victoria. I have already reviewed Olivomare (MMMm) and as I quite liked it, I wanted to go and try Olivocarne.

This restaurant created a lot of hype when it first opened in Hackney 2 years ago and was named one of the best newcomer restaurants by the Hardens guide and for 2 years running now is in the Harden’s list for best French restaurants under £50/ person. This is a sister restaurant to Soif (have not been there) and Terroirs, another French restaurant which is more central (in Charring Cross), and which I visited last year and very much enjoyed, hence I was always keen to go to Brawn as well.

The Providores and Tapa Room

Providores Tapa Room is known for its good brunch on weekends which means people are queuing outside even in the winter cold for a long time to go there. Providores opened in 2001 and is located on Marylebone High Street and the restaurant has a downstairs area which is very cosy, casual and relaxed called the Tapa Room where you can’t book and which generates the queues to get a table, or an upstairs dining area called just “Providores” which you can book but the atmosphere there is not as great as it is more formal. As I said, this place is very popular for brunch on a weekend (at other times walk ins are much easier) and if you want to go there during a weekend brunch I either advise you to do it at 11 or at 2 when the big rush of the people has died down and you will need to wait less. Also don’t think this place has anything to do with Spain, the Tapa room takes its name not from the Spanish tapas but from the huge, traditional Rarotongan Tapa cloth that hangs on the wall.

John Salt

John Salt is a pub in Islington (no idea if it is named after the English artist called John Salt) and late last year a new chef, Ben Spalding, was invited to cook food there. After only a few months during which he attracted a lot of positive reviews, he suddenly left and now the main chef is Neil Rankin. Neil used to work in Pitt Cue Co in Soho, the amazing meat restaurant, and people say he has an obsession to grill things which you can see in some of the dishes he creates in John Salt. All their fish comes from Newlyn Fish Market, meat from Warren & Sons in Cornwall and greens from Keveral Farm (on the menu they even have a dish called “Keveral Salad” which just has greens from this farm)

I have already reviewed the London L’Atelier de Joel Robouchon which just like the Paris one has 2 Michelin stars and is owned by the same man, Mr Joel Robouchon, so to get more information about his restaurants “L’Atelier de Joel Robouchon” you should the London review. I think the food is extremely good and almost the same in both restaurants (if you like a dish in 1 L’Atelier you are almost certain to find this dish in another one), but out of both experiences, I prefer the London one, which I gave 5Ms and the Paris one 4.5Ms. There are 2 “L’Atelier de Joel Robouchon” restaurants in Paris, one closer to the L’Etoile or the Arc de Triomphe, and the other one south of the river (or the left side of Seine as the locals say) in the 7th district, and this is the flagship restaurant of Joel Robouchon and the one that is listed as the 24th best restaurant in the world in the San Pellegrino restaurant awards.

I had read a lot of reviews of this restaurant in Shoreditch so I booked a table there for dinner for me and my boyfriend on a Friday evening. Ten Bells is a pub in Shoreditch where Jack the Ripper killed one of his victims, Mary Kelly, so it is famous. It is a very small pub and upstairs on the first floor there is a restaurant with the obvious name “Upstairs at the ten bells”. Giorgio Ravelli is the Head Chef and the restaurant serves modern British, seasonal food and initially it was a pop up but it got so many good reviews it is now permanent.

Biblioteka N1 Restorans

Biblioteka N1 Restorans is one of the best restaurants in Riga. It does have a funny name thought as they say they are the N1 restaurant in the name. Whilst I think the food is good and it could easily be compared to London standards, it is very expensive for Latvian standards and my dad was very shocked about the prices when I told him, as the average main course costs LVL15 (almost 19 pounds) which is expensive as in Latvia the average main course even in a good restaurant costs LVL8-12. But there are a lot of reasons why you would want to go to Biblioteka. Biblioteka is located in one of the central parks in Riga and has a wonderful view overlooking a park and during the winter months you can see trees full of snow and during the summer the park is full of beautiful and bright flowers. The main chef is Maris Jansons and he uses traditional Latvian ingredients to create Latvian as well as European dishes.
