Mango Mango is a Vietnamese fusion restaurant and a very interesting one, as I had never had Vietnamese fusion food before. Mango Mango is located on the south side of Hoi An and overlooks the Japanese Bridge, one of the things you have to see in Hoi An. The atmosphere is very funky and this restaurant could be in London, they do great cocktails, great fusion dishes but unfortunately this restaurant also does charge somewhat more western prices.

We went to Mango Mango for dinner as I had read about it in my guide book and it was quite close to our hotel and we fancied a break from the typical traditional Vietnamese food. When we arrived we were seated on the outside terrace overlooking the street, which I thought is more interesting, as you can see what is going on, although you can also be seated inside. The whole outside area was full and we took the last table, which shows that this place is quite popular.

This is a very disappointing restaurant. There are now three Tom’s Kitchen restaurants, one in Chelsea (the original restaurant which opened in 2006), one in Somerset House, and now one in Canary Wharf, which opened a few weeks ago, and which I visited as it is located close to my work. Tom’s Kitchen is a modern British brasserie serving comfort food, and tries to use UK-based suppliers wherever possible, and uses sustainable fish and they try to avoid endangered fish like tuna. The owner of these places is the famous chef Tom Aiken.

Novikov was the first restaurant I ever reviewed, when I started doing my food reviews a year and a half ago. At that point though I was not taking any pictures and also the reviews were a few lines short, so I thought I should do another, better review. When I first went to Novikov I gave it MMM, but after visiting it this time I think the food has truly improved and is good, and if before it would not be one of the obvious places to go to for me, then now it is.

I think this place does the most overpriced pizza in London. Harrods Pizzeria used to be located on the first floor by the Food Hall but recently it has moved to second floor and my friend Yuri who is a consultant and did a project for Harrods said that it was one of the most money generating places in Harrods per square metre (after the expensive jewellery and watch section), as there was always a large queue of people outside the Pizzeria and whenever they got to the table they had already decided what to eat and their turnover was so quick (they bake the pizzas very quickly) a person would be done eating in 30 minutes on average, and on average pay £25/person per visit, so you can calculate how much they would make in 1 day from just pizza. They also used to have a singing pizza chef that would sing once in a while and everyone would applaud, but there was no singing chef when we went this time.

I have been going to Shoreditch House and Beach Blanket Babylon for around 6 years now, and I have never noticed Les Trois Garcons, which is situated right next to the before mentioned places and has been there even before them. Les Trois Garcons is a funny one, as it has a long history and many stories about it, which the people that know really like and appreciate and see when they enter Les Trois Garcons, but which the average restaurant goer may miss.

I have an American Express credit card and in January as a loyalty thing they sent me a voucher with £50 off if I went to eat in the American steak restaurant The Palm. The offer was valid until the 30th of April, and I totally forgot about it until the 29th of April, Monday, and as my boyfriend and I had nothing planned for the next day we booked a table for 7pm in The Palm for dinner to spend our dining card

I am very very annoyed with this restaurant. I went there hoping I will eat at the famous Russian chef Anatoly Komm’s famous Varvary restaurant but the waiter gave me the menu of Varvary Brasserie which serves every day European and Russian food and did not even give me the menu of Anatoly Komm’s famous molecular cuisine dishes. Which leaves me in a silly position, as I have been to the premises of Varvary, experienced the atmosphere and the service and also the food, but just not the food I was expecting to have, which means I will probably have to go back to try the molecular cuisine dishes, about which I am actually extremely annoyed, as I did not really like Varvary at all.

Mark Hix has 8 restaurants these days (btw we apparently saw him during this meal, my lunch buddy Dom recognized him and pointed him out to me and he looked quite scruffy but in a trendy way) and the restaurant named after his surname, Hix (located in Soho) was the second restaurant he opened in 2009. Mark Hix is a famous chef and worked in Caprice for 17 years and after he left he opened his first restaurant Hix Oyster & Chop House in Smithfield, and he is known for his original take on British gastronomy. Hix boasts Mark Hix’s signature daily-changing menu of seasonal British food. And downstairs is the famous Mark’s bar which has great cocktails apparently, but which I did not try on this occasion.

Biblioteka N1 Restorans

Biblioteka N1 Restorans is one of the best restaurants in Riga. It does have a funny name thought as they say they are the N1 restaurant in the name. Whilst I think the food is good and it could easily be compared to London standards, it is very expensive for Latvian standards and my dad was very shocked about the prices when I told him, as the average main course costs LVL15 (almost 19 pounds) which is expensive as in Latvia the average main course even in a good restaurant costs LVL8-12. But there are a lot of reasons why you would want to go to Biblioteka. Biblioteka is located in one of the central parks in Riga and has a wonderful view overlooking a park and during the winter months you can see trees full of snow and during the summer the park is full of beautiful and bright flowers. The main chef is Maris Jansons and he uses traditional Latvian ingredients to create Latvian as well as European dishes.

Bo London is a Chinese restaurant created by Alvin Leung (aka the Demon Chef – how he likes to call himself but don’t worry he is not a demon, and this apparently comes from the Greek word "Daimôn", meaning "good-spiritedness") and in Bo London which opened in December he showcases his X-treme Chinese food. The restaurant has been getting more negative than positive reviews but that is because of the price, as for dinner you are supposed to order Bo’s tasting menu which costs £138 and at the moment is the most expensive tasting menu in London (despite the fact Bo London at the moment does not have any Michelin stars it is more expensive than Gordon Ramsay’s 3 Michelin star restaurant tasting menu). But considering Alvin has apparently invested 1 million in his restaurant (which you can’t really tell when in the restaurant) I can see why he would want to charge the customer a lot to get his money back.
