Jackson & Rye

Jackson & Rye is a US style breakfast, brunch and all day food restaurant in Soho. It looks very welcoming from the outside with large windows, and when you walk in, it has that sort of NY feel. I wanted to come here for brunch with my friend Una on a Saturday but a week before we decided to go all the brunch slots were already fully booked so we settled for breakfast at 10am. So if you want to go there for brunch, just like with the popular Riding House Café, you have to book in advance.

I did not see the brunch menu (which you can see from 11.30 to 4.30 on weekends) but the breakfast menu was great. It had buttermilk pancakes, croissant, bagels and also some exotic things like “milk and cookies with peanut grape jelly” or “cheese melt with Monterey jack, mustard, spring onions” and “creamed grits with toasted flaked almonds, berries, maple syrup” for people that want a more savoury dish. They also had a wide selection of egg dishes – 8 different. Egg dishes cost £8 on average and the rest of the smaller dishes £5 on average.

I ordered something called “health nut” which was an Egg white omelette with goats cheese and spinach. It was delicious, healthy because of the egg whites and tasty because of the goats cheese which you could feel throughout the omelette. My friend Una went for the “Avocado ‘Benedict’” which had Poached eggs, maple bacon and hollandaise sauce and instead of bread which usually eggs benedict has, it had avocado. Another interesting and healthy take on a dish. Una really enjoyed her dish.

Love this place for a casual weekend meal. Also the brunch menu with meatballs, lobster, buttermilk fried chicken, rib cut and other dishes sounds very intriguing. This is a very nice breakfast/ brunch place.
