Automat calls itself an "American Brassiere" and it is located in Mayfair. It is a very posh brassiere where the Mayfair's working crowd like to go for breakfast (my bfriend has very unhealthy waffles there quite frequently for breakfast), lunch, dinner before clubbing and also brunch on weekends. You can go to Automat for many occasions and various meals during the day, which is actually quite interesting as not many restaurants can be so versatile. The menu is very varied and different for lunch, breakfast, dinner and brunch (I guess the reason why people love it for so many different occasions) and for breakfast you can get the standard eggs benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, omelettes and bagels as well as pancakes, waffles and muffins (so very American), for lunch and dinner soups, salads, steaks and just food with an American twist.

Alinea is the only 3 Michelin star restaurant in Chicago and when I went there it was ranked the 7th best restaurant in the world by the St Pellegrino restaurant awards (now Alinea has dropped to number 15). I went to Alinea a few months after I had been to Noma (1st best restaurant in the world at the time), and whilst the food that both restaurants served was excellent, the two restaurants are very different. The main chef at Alinea is Grant Achatz and people say he serves “food of the future” and is known for his preparations and deconstructions of classic flavours. The restaurant is located in Chicago in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and opened on May 4, 2005.

Rosebud steakhouse is a great, typical American steakhouse in Chicago. Everything is massive and delicious and cheese is added to any dish that they can think of. They say they are “a rare steakhouse, well done”, which I think is a great play on words.

I went to Rosebud Steakhouse, located just off the expensive Michigan Avenue which is the Chicago version of New York’s 5th avenue, on a Friday evening and it was buzzing and vibrant, with no free tables. Another funny thing about Rosebud Steakhouse is that they emphasize on their website their place is the perfect place for celebrities and VIPs, which probably is great PR, as many people want to go there just to see celebrities, which I doubt happen to be there too often.

Spuntino is an American/ Italian tapas/ small plates restaurant located in Soho. It is one of the restaurants owned by Russell Norman, and one of his latest additions (the other restaurants are Polpo, Polpetto, da Polpo and Mishkin, and I have been to all of them apart from Polpetto). For some reason that I still quite can’t work out I prefer Spuntino over the other restaurants Mr Norman owns, maybe it is the menu (the rest apart from Mishkin’s serve Venetian tapas, Mishkin is a Jewish deli), or maybe it is the atmosphere, as it has a bit of a New York feel to it.

My boyfriend and I have started a new thing, where every weak we go through the alphabet and chose a cuisine based on the corresponding letter. I was the one that kicked this off, with A, first letter of the alphabet and so last week I had to choose a cuisine that starts with A (could have been Algerian, Afghanistan, Argentinean etc...) and based on that a restaurant. My boyfriend thought I would be nice and sophisticated and chose something like Argentinean but I decided to go for - American!! I chose a Southern American restaurant called Lowcountry that had just opened up in Fulham and served "shrimps and grits" type of Southern Creole food. After having spent 40 minutes getting there, my expectations were running high, but when I got there the place looked like a made up pub (1/2 of the place is a pub and then they also have a dining room where you can watch the chefs cook food in the middle of the room and can even sit next to where they are cooking).

Pitt Cue Co has been one of my best discoveries, the place serves seriously good food. I have been there twice now, I first went there a few months after it had opened and I had some of the best ribs there ever. I liked it so much I dragged my boyfriend there who also loves this place and has been taking his friends there ever since.
