Essensia restaurant is located in the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Prague, and I was staying in the Mandarin Oriental and me and my dinner buddy Ulle were feeling a bit tired to have dinner anywhere else outside of the hotel, so we decided to take it easy and just go to the convenient Essensia restaurant. The same space acts as a restaurant in the evening and in the morning it is a breakfast venue, but apart from the dark lighting in the evening it is the same in terms of interior both morning and evening. The place has square type of tables and straight tallish ornamented with golden leaves dark red chairs.

Naamyaa calls itself an all day dining modern Bangkok café and is located in Islington. I read about it in a magazine back in November when it first opened but what really made me want to go there is when one of my friends told me that one of the chefs (David Thomson) involved in Naamyaa used to work for Nahm, the Michelin star Thai restaurant, that recently closed down in London (he and his colleague Yau (creator of Wagamama) which are both behind Naamyaa also opened Busaba Eathai in 1999). Unfortunately when I finally made to Naamyaa David had left and was no longer running the kitchen and some critics say the food has deteriorated ever since.

My boyfriend got an email saying if he went to East Street on a certain week and showed his business card, he would get 50% off any main courses there (everyone from his work could use this offer), so I was very keen to take advantage of this offer as I had not been to East Street before and I thought this would be a perfect dinner as we would be saving money. East Street is located just a few streets away from Tottenham Court Road, in the same location where the restaurant Eagle Bar and Diner used to be that I had visited before with my friends, which I thought was quite nice and thought it did well, so I was surprised to see another restaurant there. But then again change for the better is never bad.

I went to Asia de Cuba on a Saturday night as we were having a catch up dinner with my LSE friends. The last time (and the only time) I had been to Asia de Cuba before was about 5 years ago for lunch, and I remember it used to be one of the IT places to go to in London, and people would really be super keen to go there a few years ago Unfortunately it seems like the hype around the place has died and I can't remember really anyone mentioning the place before my LSE friends decided to go there for dinner. But I was wrong and clearly people go there as the place was full and buzzing when we arrived, with every single table occupied. The restaurant is located in St Martin's Hotel which is very trendy and modern, on the edge of Covent Garden and the restaurant is very cool, on 2 levels, one level about a metre higher than the other one, and the walls are decorated with pictures.

I first went to Spice Market in New York’s Meatpacking district about 4 years ago and absolutely loved it. I was blown away by the food and thought it was one of the best meals of my life. So naturally I was extremely excited to find out 2 years ago that they would be opening a branch in London (their 2nd only after NY).

This is one of the hottest openings of this year that everyone is talking about. SushiSamba is a Japanese/ Peruvian/ Brazilian fusion restaurant (so a bit like Nobu in this way) that already has branches in New York, Miami, Chicago and Las Vegas and a few weeks ago they opened their first restaurant in Europe, in London. SushiSamba is located on the 39th floor of the Heron Tower, in the financial city area of London, and is now supposed to be the 2nd highest restaurant in Europe (only to be upstaged by Duck & Waffle which is located in the same building but on the 40th floor). I went there on a very hot Friday a few weeks ago for lunch and the view from the 39th floor was absolutely amazing, the best you can get in London in my view and tourists should be taken here not to the London Eye.

Naga serves Oriental food with a strong influence from Vietnam and its neighbouring countries, and it is wonderful value for money restaurant (for example the black cod here is £19.5 when in E&O it is £36, in Zuma £28 and a massive £42 in Nobu) serving very delicious Oriental food. Naga is located just off High Street Kensington on a little side street.

This is “an interactive restaurant”, which means that you have a table that acts like a computer. I went to this pan Asian restaurant in Soho (although they now also have a branch on Regents street) and was very excited by the  “interactive table” on which you can order your food. You can select different items with a mouse on the table and the picture and the description of the food appear on your table so you can make a very wise choice about the food you want to have. I spend a lot of time looking through all the dishes and I love the fact that I could make a very informed judgment about the things I would have. You can also change the colour of your table by clicking on this mouse, as well as playing games (so if you have bored children, this is perfect). The food though was a disappointment and the best thing about this place was the interactive table.

A long time ago I subscribed to be on the mailing list for the Ricker Restaurant group that owns 6 restaurants in London - E&O in Notting Hill, Great Eastern Dining Room in Shoreditch, XO on Belsize Lane, Cacada on St John Street, Glo Glo in Shoreditch and Eight over Eight in Chelsea and last Saturday I was very excited to see that they sent me an email saying they are doing a promotion in Eight over Eight and you can go there every Sunday in July and have 40% discount on all the food you have. I have been to 3 Ricker restaurants and I generally have liked the food before (they all serve almost the same type of pan Asian dishes) so I was keen to use this offer. We got to the restaurant quite late at 3pm on Sunday which probably explained why the restaurant was quite empty (or maybe the restaurant is just empty so they need to do the promotional offer).

Dexhels is a fusion restaurant (Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese and European food) in the Hague, Netherlands. I thought the concept of doing this was great, however some of the dishes I did not think were that tasty or good.

There were however some delicious dishes like the Indonesian satay which apparently is a home recipe of the chef (and I guess Indonesian dishes would be the best due to the Netherlands and Indonesian link). I also very much enjoyed the duck pancakes which were sort of similar to the pancakes you make in a Chinese restaurant with the crispy aromatic duck.

The dishes that I thought could have been better were a crab dish, bento box (did not like the dumplings), sashimi, cod ceviche and goats cheese salad. I sort of could tell what these dishes were aiming to achieve as there are similar dishes I have had in London, but the taste of all these was just a bit off.
