I had not seen my friend Alon for a very long time, and I finally managed to arrange brunch with him, and as he has a new girlfriend he took her along to our brunch. He suggested we go to 202 on Westbourne grove, as he lives quite close and I had been to this restaurant, but a very long time ago, so I was keen to visit it again.

The Canonbury is a pub in Islington which has a large garden area, so a lot of families with children come here on a weekend with their children for brunch and lunch. My boyfriend and I met up with such a couple that has 2 kids and had brunch here. The day was sunny and warm and it was a pleasure to sit outside in their large and nice outside space and drink a slightly alcoholic drink. The food however I thought was not amazing and most pubs do better food, so I would not make this a lunch destination, but if you are here in the garden enjoying the good weather, you could have lunch.

I had read a few months ago that a new restaurant had opened in Canary Wharf, The Pearson Room, and the article that referred to it spoke of burgers, fried chicken, all sorts of casual and cool types of food that you could eat there. In reality I found the Pearson Room very different when I visited it with my friend Anda for a lunch.

Tantris

Tantris is supposed to be the best restaurant in Munich, and because I was visiting my mum who lives in Munich, I wanted to go there when I was there. Tantris has 2 Michelin stars and has been voted the 10th best restaurant in Germany as well as the 85th best restaurant in the world by the St Pellegrino Restaurant Awards. Tantris is an old restaurant and opened in 1971, and shortly afterwards was awarded first one, and then two Michelin stars, and at that time no other restaurant in Germany had more than 2 Michelin stars. Tantris as you can imagine has had many chefs over the years, but at the moment the main chef is Hans Haas who has also been voted the top chef in Germany.

Ocui

I was visiting my mum in Munich and we went for a quick lunch to Ocui. I have been to Ocui a few times now and it always delivers a consistent good meal. Located in the centre of Munich, it calls itself an open cuisine and once you enter you are given a card which you give to various food stations that you visit throughout your meal, and where they upload the price and then pay for everything you have had at the end when you leave. The dining room is large with tables of various sizes and shapes scattered around the room, so you can find the right seat for you, and in the middle there  are various food stations. There is a station for pizzas and antipasti where you can go and order your pizza (made to order) or other type of Italian starters and then wait until they are ready (you get a buzzer which starts buzzing when your dish is ready), and when you order each you give your Ocui card and the station puts in the price of the dish inside the card.

Innocent Cafe

My friend Guna loves this brunch restaurant and both of us have been there many times, as Guna says they do great brunch, have the best coffee in Riga and also have wonderful looking men serving you coffee and food (the men are alternative and cool looking and I do agree a lot of them are great looking and it is just so nice to have brunch whilst having eye candy around you). The interior is pleasant and welcoming with various sized and shaped tables and chairs all around the room, as well as tables outside if you want to sit in fresh air, which when it is very hot in Riga, is very pleasant.

The best thing about Innocent Café is the coffee and people like Guna that like coffee and know and recognize good coffee say this is the best coffee place in Riga. They use Illy coffee, special Illy cups (which they say keep coffee at the perfect temperature), world class coffee machines and many of their barristas (the good looking men that I mentioned) have won special awards.

Restaurant Story has become very popular in the last few months, I have had many people asking me in the last 2 months if I have been there, and getting a reservation these days is not that easy. Story is located just south of Tower Bridge, in a funny place in between roads where public toilets used to be situated just a few months ago. The owners of Story have got rid of the toilets and instead built a light wooden building that has around 15 tables inside. There is no big sign saying Story outside and I almost walked past this place when I was looking for it, and the only reason why I found it is because I had my google maps with the exact location of the restaurant. I had booked a table for 4 people for a Thursday dinner for my boyfriend, myself and my friend Bernie and his wife, and Bernie’s wife is a fellow food blogger and she had chosen this venue, so I had high expectations.

Ivy, The
1 West Street, WC2H 9NQ
London
United Kingdom

The Ivy is one of those restaurants that used to have so much character and grandeur and with time this has faded. The Ivy serves European/ British food and since 1990 is owned by the Caprice Holdings Ltd, same group that owns Le Caprice, J Sheeky’s, Scott’s and other iconic London restaurants (but the Ivy is the oldest restaurant out of all these). All these restaurants are or have been the destinations for celebrities, and some of them still are and some less so. The Ivy dates back to 1917, when the owner Abel Glandellini and Maître d'Hôtel Mario Gallati opened it, but then it was a modest café. Ever since The Ivy has seen many redevelopments which slowly has created the dining room you can see now. The name of the restaurant comes from a phrase the actress Alice Delysia said "Don't worry, we will always come to see you, we will cling together like the ivy,", quoting a popular song of the day. The Ivy has a dress code and you can’t wear shorts or vests.

Jūrmala

36. Linija (or in English “Bar & Grill 36. Line”) is a wonderful restaurant in Jurmala, one of Latvia’s seaside resorts, around 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Riga. Jurmala is the most luxurious sea side area in Latvia where you can see some very impressive houses, which means the clientele of 36. Linija, which is arguably the best restaurant in Jurmala is equally wealthy and you will see many designer handbags and luxurious cars when you go there (36. Linija also feeds many of the wealthy and famous Russians that come to Jurmala for the famous summer festival “New Wave”). The name of the restaurant is very clever, and in Jurmala at one point streets don’t have names, but are called “lines” and the last line is number 35, so the restaurant calls itself after an imaginary next street that could have been there. 36.

Lutyens is many things. It has 2 restaurants, 2 bars (wine bar which is by the entrance and has less expensive bistro food and cocktail bar), an outside terrace, it has private rooms, it has a members club and it is also open for breakfast, and as it is located in front of THE Goldman Sachs on Fleet Street (in the former Reuters building) it has the clientele that is interested in all these different things. Lutyens opened in 2009 and the place is named after the famous architect and designer of the building's façade, but the new format of the place has been designed by the famous restaurateur and designer sir Terence Conran.
