Jinjuu is the new modern Korean restaurant in Soho. Jinjuu means “pearl” (the bill they gave us was served in a large fake pearl case) and according to their website it is the new restaurant with “celebrity chef, Judy Joo”. I personally had never heard of this “celebrity chef” and had to google her and she seems to be doing more TV work than cooking and mainly in the US.

We went to Jinjuu for lunch on a Sunday and you could either sit on the ground floor and eat from their menu that focuses on small dishes based on “anju”, which is food that you eat when you drink, or sit downstairs in the basement where you can eat large sharing platters and Korean barbecue. They actually sat us downstairs but told us we could order from the small dishes menu, which is what we wanted to do.

I really want to try the new Japanese restaurant Kintan and thought I could easily get a table there on Friday, but was turned away as they were fully booked and I had not booked. This left me in the middle of Holborn on a Friday evening hungry and with no ideas where to go.  As I was walking towards Soho or Covent Garden where I thought I would go as a back up I noticed Kimchee, a restaurant in between Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations. I love Korean food and kimchi, thanks to my wonderful Korean friend Haewon, so I was easily persuaded to go there.

The restaurant looks very trendy from outside with high ceilings, dark décor, but when we went inside, even though it was relatively early on a Friday, it was packed and with very few free tables. You don’t actually sit by a table by yourself, there are communal tables where you are placed. There is also an open kitchen on one side. Mr Kim opened Kimchee as he wanted to bring his native Korean food to London.

My boyfriend woke up with an big hangover on a Sunday morning having been drinking at rugby the previous day and was craving some noodles for lunch. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to go to the new ramen restaurant "Bone Daddies" in Soho, but when we got there on a Sunday, I realized that it was closed on that particular day and we had to come up with another plan of where to go. We had just walked past a Korean restaurant Bibigo, and we decided to go back there as we could probably get noodles there as well (I had read about this place a few weeks ago, so I knew that it was new and had been quite keen to try this when I was reading the review).
